What is the significance of the daughters of zelophehad

It also places specific marriage restrictions upon any women who inherit under this right. The story of the five daughters of Zelophehad provides legitimation of a limited right of Israelite women to inherit land. His five daughters belong to the new generation that would enter and possess the promised land. Their mother is never mentioned. Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah come forward to appeal this regulation, stating their case in front of the sacred tent of meeting in the presence of Moses, Eleazar the priest, the leaders, and indeed the whole community Num The story presumes a culture that recognizes a connection between landholding and preservation of a male name in a family lineage.

Moses consults God, and God announces the decision to Moses: the proposal of the daughters of Z elophe h ad is to be implemented vv. Later on, the male relatives of the Manassite clan to which Z elophe h ad belonged recognize what to them appears to be a large loophole in this ruling.

Their appeal to Moses is recorded in Numbers The male relatives point out that when the daughters of Z elophe h ad get married, the land that they have inherited will go with them to the clans of their husbands. The relatives are concerned that the marriage of any of the daughters outside their own tribe will lead to diminution of the Manassite landholdings.

Moses announces that God does not intend any moving of land from tribe to tribe. The daughters do marry within their clan Num —12 and eventually receive their inheritance Josh —6. Ben-Barak, Zafrira. Jaffa: Archaeological Center Publications, Gafney, Wilda C. Jesus told us of a place He is preparing for us — another land — heaven.

This world is not our home. We are just passing through. We must not live for today but for eternity. I cannot wait to enter the Promised Land of Heaven! Oh that we would have the faith of these women — believing and not doubting, confident and sure that for those who are believers — heaven awaits us.

Believe in God; believe also in me. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? They had faith they could be used by God to bring about change! These 5 women had the courage to approach leaders to make a change! As a result of their faith, they were given a portion just the same as the men. They not only gained an inheritance for themselves but for ALL women, in this situation, for generations to come! Oh that we would imitate the faith of these women!

Without faith we cannot please God. Hebrews They were young and focused. But clearly, this father had raised them to walk with the Lord and to have faith. They knew right from wrong which is why their request was granted from the Lord.

Sometimes I think we assume that once we are saved, blessings should just pour down from heaven on us. This is not the case.

Sometimes blessings do not come until we have walked a painful road. Sometimes blessings do not come until we have prayed hard to God, begging for change. Sometimes blessings do not come until we step out in faith — way outside our comfort zone — and watch God work through us, despite our feeble selves.

Sometimes blessings do not come until we gather the courage to confront something that is wrong, to make it right. Will you dare to challenge something in this world that you know is wrong and push to make it right? Are you willing to make a difference for generations to come? Are you living for eternity today? Do I struggle with fear? I have fear that stops me in my tracks in living the life God wants for me.

Crazy, irrational, what-if fears. Fears that take my focus off God, my husband and son and monopolize my thoughts. I want so deeply to be free of the strong hold of fear.

I imagine given the size of my fears, if I were able to let go of them and fully live in faith- my life would be stunningly amazing in what I could experience in relation to my walk with God. Dear friend ask God incessantly to change this, to remove this feeling, He is the manufacturer and He is the only one able to change our heart! God bless you! Hi Ashley I know how fear can be so crippling, I too have struggled with fear but I got free when I applied 2 Timothy for God did not give us a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind.
