The Warakurna community lies near the foot of the spectacular Rawlinson Range, kilometres west of Uluru Ayers Rock. About people live in Warakurna. Warakurna artists have developed a distinctive painting style using figurative elements combined with more traditional forms of Western Desert art. Right in the heart of Australia, on the Outback Way kilometres north-east of Kalgoorlie and kilometres south-west of Alice Springs , lies the Warburton Ngaanyatjarra community. This Centre reflects the vivid colours of their homelands and exhibits an extensive collection of Indigenous art, including beautiful paintings, artefacts, spinifex paper, baskets, art and glassware.
Accommodation options include cabins at the Warburton Roadhouse and caravan park where meals and a general store are also available. The nearby Giles Weather Station is fully operational and welcomes visitors to view the daily release of weather balloons at 9. Named after Ernest Giles, an explorer of the area during the s, the station includes the remains of the first Blue Streak Rocket, launched from Woomera on June 5 , and the grader that was used to build the Gunbarrel Highway.
The surveyor of the Gunbarrel Highway , Len Beadell, who was also a talented artist and author, provided the Giles Weather Station with interesting wall murals, which often become a talking point among visitors. Accommodation by Type. There are currently 44 students enrolled at Warakurna: 13 students in K - Year 1, 11 in years , 10 in years 4 - 6 and 10 in years 6 - 9. We cover all learning areas. Our priorities are language, phonological awareness, the Aboriginal Literacy Strategy and numeracy. Other programs include a campus wide music program, a health program delivered in partnership with Ngaanyatjarra Health, nationally recognized training, sport and a playgroup.

Our campus facilities Warakurna has a wonderful new library, which is the focal point for school celebrations, a manual arts room, a home economics room, upper and lower primary classrooms, an Early Childhood Centre and a 0 to 3 facility.
